Javon Chapman B. 1993, is a contemporary multifaceted artist. At a young age he stumbled upon a Sony camcorder that recorded onto Hi 8 / Mini DV cassette tapes. Fascinated by timestamped memories, sparked the idea of drawing comic-esc storyboards for future concepts while learning how to use a camera.
He later began the development of a video series called ‘JTUtv’, which broadcasts world travels, comedy skits, art installations and short films on social media since 2007. While in high school he premiered rough draft visuals in AP literature on projectors while submitting the storyboards as assignments. The video concepts depicted influences from Dave Chappelle, Bill Nye, Quentin Tarantino, Adult Swim, David Firth, Hideo Kojima, Tyler Perry and Edgar Wright.
He later enrolled into the Colorado Film School Of Cinematics and during enrollment, he created 3 black and white short films that left his peers questioning where these advanced skills had come from so soon, unknown of his prior experience making films and videos in high school. During this time period he participated in contemporary art exhibitions and film screenings to further understand cultural depth in visual arts and treating every moment as free education.
Now in 2025, Javons consistency in practice has developed into an intricate genre incorporating microbiology, film, music, painting, installation and the process of expiration dates on artwork from production to destruction. The recent artworks drive inspiration from the ‘super-flat' art movement by Takashi Murakami, Van Minnens colorful surrealism paintings, Wes Andersons symmetry and flat composition and Olafur Eliasson and Hiroshi Sambuichi installations involving nature and architecture.
